Read (and commented) on Lifehacker ( that the beta version of Firefox 3 ( was available in a portable version from PortableApps ( Even though I knew my must-have extensions ( were unlikely to be ready for it, I decided to load it on my SD card and give it a try.

Can't give it a thorough test run without my pen-enabling extensions, but to my surprise, it looks like Malorkus won't have to update GeckoTIP ( because the floating TIP was floating and working just fine.

Actually, GeckoTIP offers more than just floating TIP support, so that part would be worth updating, but right now, it seems Firebox 3 is coded properly so that text fields are recognized by the TIP. At least on XP. Maybe someone running Vista can confirm this.

Floating TIP in Firefox 3 Beta

  1. I realized after reading Warner's interpretation of my post that I wasn't clear that FF3 itself is TIP-enabled without GeckoTIP. Sorry about that.

  2. I was wondering about this, because it worked out of the gate with Vista and FF 3 Beta 2.

Also, I can confirm that the Grab and Drag add-on works, but I had to set a flag in the FF Config to disable compatibility checking with add-ons.
