All bloggers are journalists
James Kendrick (http://www.jkontherun.com/2008/03/are-bloggers-jo.html) recently stepped outside his mobile tech focus to offer his opinion of what separates bloggers from journalists. He gives a good list of ethical concerns, but I think it suffers from the false assumption that journalism is inherently ethical.
Journalists, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journalist), gather and disseminate information about current events, trends, issues, and people. The term carries a connotation of ethical behavior, but I would consider that a matter of quality, not authenticity. Furthermore, journalism includes subgenres based on style, such as advocacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advocacy_journalism) and opinion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_journalism), as well as medium. A blog, I would argue, is simply another medium, and a blogger is a type of journalist. Whether a blogger is a good journalist is another question.
