HTC Shift may yet bring dual boot... maybe
After much waiting, word is out that the HTC Shift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Shift), a UMPC with instant-on access to PIM data, is on the way to the States via Sprint. Serious shout-out to Jedi master Matt Miller, the Mobile Gadgeteer (http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=952), for that bit of news and excessive extensive photos.
Coincidentally, I read on GottaBeMobile (http://www.gottabemobile.com/Liberate+And+Get+Full+Windows+Mobile+On+The+HTC+Shift.aspx) that full Windows Mobile could be enabled on the device via a hack, which means HTC Shift may bring us dual boot (http://sumocat.blogspot.com/2007/06/htc-shift-may-bring-us-dual-boot.html). Yes, nine months after I initially wrote that headline, the hope of a true dual boot device with instant-on Windows Mobile functionality and the power of a full Windows desktop OS lingers on like an imperishable corpse animated by a malignant spirit driven by vengeance.
Yeah, I know that seems like an odd way to describe hope, but to put it in direct terms, it's hope that persists for no natural reason. It moves forward despite the fact that I've warmed up to the idea of carrying two devices (iPhone and Tablet PC) instead.
