Essay: Why Three Panels?

Essay: Why Three Panels?

To keep the blogging experiment progressing forward, I've moved yet another project off the backburner: cartooning. I'm using a classic three-panel layout, which has inspired the name of the strip, Three Panels by Sumocat (http://sumocat.blogspot.com/search/label/three%20panels). Yeah, I know. Doesn't sound very inspired. But remember, Build 52 sounds boring too, and its name evolved from its purpose as a generator for Links in Ink. With that in mind, here's my ink essay on the origins of Three Panels.

Essay (almost): Analysis of Dell’s Challenge to Psion

Analysis of Dell’s Challenge to Psion
After reading through Dell’s petition to cancel Psion’s trademark registration on “Netbook,” I posted the following response on GottaBeMobile.com (http://www.gottabemobile.com/2009/02/19/dell-challenges-psion-on-netbook-trademark/). I want to save a copy here, but I don’t feel like re-inking it or bulking up the sideblog, so here it is in text form.

Essay: Imagining Multi-touch in Outlook

Essay: Imagining Multi-touch in Outlook

I managed to impose my way into a discussion (somewhat contentious, but I wouldn't call it an argument) between Rob "many tablets" Bushway (http://www.gottabemobile.com/MultiTouch+Scenarios+On+A+Tablet+PC.aspx) and James "when did it become Kevin's blog" Kendrick (http://www.jkontherun.com/2008/05/windows-7-does.html) concerning the uses and usefulness of multi-touch input in the upcoming Windows 7. Rob produced an excellent list of usage scenarios, but they apply largely to specific fields, not necessarily to a mobile professional like James. So the big question is, how can multi-touch improve the mobile computing experience? The answer, I think, lies in that powerful piece of business software known as Microsoft Outlook.

Sorry about the .docx file

Sorry about the .docx file

I just opened my premiere essay (http://sumocat.blogspot.com/2008/05/essay-contemplating-expanding-to-essays.html) in Word 2003 on my work PC, which has the file convertor installed. Ugh! Sapped a huge amount of the 3 GHz of P4 processing power and took forever to render the ink annotations. I'll continue to post that format as the "raw" source file, but I'll need to include a PDF to make the thing readable. Sorry about that ill-informed attempt to promote Word 2007.docx files, and thanks to Susan for pointing me in this direction. :)

Essay: Contemplating expanding to essays

Essay: Contemplating expanding to essays

I recently mentioned (http://sumocat.blogspot.com/2008/05/scribbles-hits-1000.html) that I was thinking about adding old-fashioned text entries to my ink blog. Well, I’m not quite ready to sully up my beautiful layout with big chunks of text. The blog template is designed for inked entries, and it’s going to stay that way. Standard text entries just wouldn’t fit. That’s not to say, however, I won’t be adding typed entries to my blog; I’m just going to do it a little differently (no surprise there). That’s where this little Microsoft Word 2007 .docx document (http://www.markandtanya.us/scribbles/Contemplatingexpandingintoessays.docx) comes in.
