8When did the world get so crazy and short-sighted? I guess it's always been that way, but now we just have a better view. Everything is recorded. It's easier to take snippets and edit them out of context. It's easier for people to believe what they want regardless of facts. You can have all the facts on your side, and there's always some fabricated story on the other.
At the same time, memories seem to be shrinking. People will say something one month then contradict themselves the next. Not because they've learned something new or uncovered new data. It's just whatever works for them at that moment. Makes me glad to have stuck with full-sized blogging instead of micro-blogging or social networking. Allows me to look back at what I've published and understand where I've been so I can better predict where I'm going. [+/-] Hide/Show Text [+/-] Hide/Show Text
When one thinks of rugged Tablet PCs, one envisions guys in hard hats taking meter readings, looking at design plans, or otherwise getting their hands dirty. But since I don't do those things, what you get instead is me ink blogging from my front yard bench.
Currently, I'm in the shade, relaxing with a root beer. Screen brightness is notched down to 60%, but it's still perfectly legible. I took some video earlier of it in direct sun, complete with glaring reflection, still quite readable at full brightness. Bezel button backlight control makes for an excellent daylight experience.
As you can see, the pen input is smooth, more so than I expected. The Wacom Penabled digitizer offers its usual accuracy and pressure sensitivity. That's paired with low-sensitivity resistive touch, which eliminates stray screen triggering. Perfect palm rejection. Pen experience is wonderful.
Despite the weight of the device, its ruggedness makes it easy to handle. The carry handle is very convenient, and I've enjoyed being able to carry a Tablet PC around without a case or bag.
I'm taking notes as I go along, monitoring battery life, judging the responsiveness of the Intel SSD, and noting the heat output from its fanless design. Very impressive so far. I especially like that it can stand upright on its own. More to come. [+/-] Hide/Show Text [+/-] Hide/Show Text
Finally, after years of living in the DC Metro area, there's an event in DC I can really get behind. Oh sure there have been anti-war protests, but this one appeals to my true nature of not being serious.
So which side will I pick? Sanity (http://www.rallytorestoresanity.com/) or fear (http://www.keepfearalive.com/)? Not much of a contest: I choose the rally for sanity. Here's why.
First, I view marches as parades without floats, and I hate parades. Second, walking? Ugh. Third, all the craziness in the world is bumping me higher up the sanity curve. I'm supposed to be the nut job conspiracy theorist, not the guy shaking his head at the wacko wannabes who don't even bother presenting evidence. Thus, in an insane world, I'm siding with sanity. How crazy is that? [+/-] Hide/Show Text [+/-] Hide/Show Text
The corn industry, reeling from the impact of an awakened public, has decided to address the problem in the tried and true corporate manner: rebranding (http://consumerist.com/2010/09/hfcs-rebrands-as-corn-sugar.html).
Going forward, high fructose corn syrup will be called "corn sugar" regardless of the fact it's really starch converted to glucose then chemically altered to fructose. Probably still won't be on store shelves next to real sugar either. Every other sweetener from real sugar to sucralose to Stevia can be purchased in pure form but "corn sugar" is still restricted to industrial use. Why is that ? Been absent from the inking section of the blog for a while. Part of that is due to being busy with other blogging, but mostly it's because I was getting my head beat in by a cold. Took me down for a couple of days, which I then had to catch up at work. Still, I should have gotten some ink blogging done this past week. I should have an easier time getting entries written going forward. More on that later. [+/-] Hide/Show Text [+/-] Hide/Show Text
