HFCS rebranding as "Corn Sugar"
The corn industry, reeling from the impact of an awakened public, has decided to address the problem in the tried and true corporate manner: rebranding (http://consumerist.com/2010/09/hfcs-rebrands-as-corn-sugar.html).
Going forward, high fructose corn syrup will be called "corn sugar" regardless of the fact it's really starch converted to glucose then chemically altered to fructose. Probably still won't be on store shelves next to real sugar either. Every other sweetener from real sugar to sucralose to Stevia can be purchased in pure form but "corn sugar" is still restricted to industrial use. Why is that ?
