Against all odds, Barack Obama wins
He built a political campaign from the ground up to face and defeat two strong opponents backed by proven campaign machines. He brought more voters into the process and inspired hope at a time when despair could easily prevail. He reached out into areas full of people who would vote against him for the color of his skin or his unusual name. He shook up the electorate, not simply winning swing states but putting more states into play. He re-engineered the political fundraising system from big bundles from a few to smaller amounts from more contributors. The result is not just a dramatic win for Obama but a fundamental shift in the political landscape. It is a firm rebuke of the politics of fear and negativity, and an affirmation that we want to be involved.
