Open invite to try the new Build 52
I finally achieved critical mass with ideas to revise Build 52 (http://www.markandtanya.us/scribbles/Build52.html), my Links in Ink building tool. I might pretty it up some more, but it's fully armed and operational. And this time, anyone can give it a try without tinkering with templates.
Yep, this version has all the code embedded. If your blog application has an HTML editing interface, you should be able to use Build 52 to build Links in Ink. No need to add special scripts or styles to your blog template.
I also lifted the limit on the number of Links in Ink that can be added to an entry. The only real limit is good sense.
Finally, the style and color of the links can be changed with each entry. I may add more styles and options here. If anyone has a preference, let me know.
Build 52 is an Internet Explorer-only app, but the Links in Ink appear to work in IE, Firefox, Safari, and Google Reader (thanks to James Morman for that last confirmation). If you see them (or not) in another application, let me know.
One more thing, after pondering a name adjustment to reflect the revision, I decided to let it slide. So the name is still just Build 52. Let me know how you like it.

Hey, I've been meaning to send you a screen grab of what pops up in my Google reader, but things have been hectic this weekend. The image and links works awesome, but you get hyper link lines under the screen capture of the ink. I have a screen capture showing what I mean at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23006135@N03/2224221619/
Other than that, it seems to works good. Keep up the great work, you make geeks like me look good!

Great job sumocat! Check it out. http://www.sixftunda.blogspot.com/ Now here is a real feat...set it up to leave comments in ink!

Thanks so much for this. It's genius. I will be using this. It's so easy!

Thanks to everyone for testing.
Phil: Not only have I seen it, but I left a comment for you too. I'll be compiling a list of test sites once I get back from work (and unfortunately I work a long Monday).
Nick: Thanks for the screen grab. That is a peculiar problem. The links are positioned and sized properly, just not over the image. My initial guess is that Google Reader separated the image from the links with DIV tags. If so, I can't do anything about that. I'll have to check it out myself and examine the code.
James M: You're not the first to inquire about comments in ink. Unfortunately, that's a fix on the blog application end.
James: If you define "genius" as getting it right on the fourth try, then I can't argue.

WOW! Thanks Sumocat! Can't wait to try it! Any chance of there being a downloadable version as your first Build52 v1?

Build 52 is working with Opera browser 9.25!
By iDorkas, at 1/29/2008 02:33:00 AM
iDorkas: Thanks for the Opera confirmation. As for a downloadable version, Build 52 is contained entirely in the HTML page, so you can download it as HTML and customize it however you wish.
Once I polish up a few more bits, specifically the format options, I plan on making it more custom-friendly (in part because I also need to customize a version for myself with the cat icons and whatnot).
