Among the many minor tweaks I'm doing to my new townhouse is swapping the old incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents. They last longer, use far less electricity, and throw off a fraction of the heat. A 13 watt soft white fluorescent produces as much light as a 60 watt conventional bulb, but I can actually touch it while on without getting burned. | ![]()

But don't forget that fluorescent bulbs have mercury in them so dispose of them responsibly.
