Good-Bye Pat, Hello Pip
Something that happened during the break was our old friend Patty left us. And then was replaced. And then returned. And then left us for real.
So what happened was Patty went out one night... for 12 days. These were cold nights during the polar vortex. Three nights in we thought he was gone.
The first weekend without him, Tanya walked into Petco with her mom and saw a little black cat for adoption. Having lost a cat, she was unable to resist and applied to adopt him.
She got a call from the agency the following Friday confirming the adoption. Not one hour later, she went to the back door and there was Patty. To this day, I think he sensed he was being replaced and hustled home.
Well, he was happy to be back with us. Until Saturday. Then we brought home cat #4, Pip. And then Pat was not happy. And thin things got worse.
The next week, as Pat replenished the weight he lost while being lost. We noticed a growth on his leg. We took him to the vet and it turned out to be a tumor. We scheduled surgery for him, but the tumor was too aggressive and had grown too big to be removed. It eventually ulcerated and it became time to put him down.
So now we're back to three cats: Spooky, Homer, and Pip. Pat, at least, got to meet the new cat before he left. We'll miss you, Pat, and welcome to the family, Pip.
