Fences clears off my desktop
Lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com/5147316/fences-is-a-seriously-awesome-desktop-icon-organizer) turned me on to a new tool from Stardock called Fences (http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/index.asp). It's a desktop organizing app that lets you corral icons in separate boxes. But more importantly for me, it can make all the icons disappear with a double-tap.
Now that I can toggle between icons and no icons, I have incentive to use an interesting desktop wallpaper again. I'd been using blank, dark red for a while, like my blog background but without the fade. Kept that color and then slapped an image of Bruticus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruticus) on it, taken from DeviantART (http://vulnepro.deviantart.com/art/Transformers-Bruticus-62230171?moodonly=24). I added some Deception (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decepticon) symbols for texture and there you go.
Thinking of adding circuitry-looking lines or an iconic image, like Megatron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megatron), to the background, but I don't want to muck it up too much. Anyway. I like having the icons cleared off but still accessible with a simple double-tap. I really don't use those icons much anymore, preferring to launch apps (and commands) via ritePen (http://www.ritescript.com/Products/ritePen.aspx) instead.
