My new pen is rockin'
Friend of the blog and bonafide iPhone app developer Michael Venini (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=290528721) read about my interest in the Lenovo Tablet PC pen (http://sumocat.blogspot.com/2008/11/sgl-can-you-spare-tablet-pc-pen.html) and decided to threw me a bone, I mean, pen.
Turns out he bought a ThinkPad X41 TPC with a spare pen. He then sold the tablet but kept the spare pen. Thus, this pen sat in a desk drawer, sad and lonely, until Mike decided to send it to a good home, And what home would be better than the writing hand of Sumocat?
Mike's pen is not the same one I'd previously mentioned. Lenovo changed their pen design to a more traditional style with the X61 (http://www.alltp.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1182&idaffiliate=14). However, I am finding the unique design of their old pen to be quite comfortable and useful.
The pen has a flat edge on which there are the right-click button, eraser button and clip. The flat edge helps me hold my pen at a good angle to reach the right-click button. It also makes it easier to handle the pen when I'm surfing the web, since I usually hold the pen differently.
Having an eraser side button is new for me. I find myself wanting to flip this pen over to erase, but I'm getting the hang of it. Also, I do most of my erasing via scratch-out.
Finally, the pen is lighter than any pen I've used since my old stubby Electrovaya pen. Think my hand is a bit more nimble because of it.
Not sure it beats the Wacom eraser pen (http://www.alltp.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=225&idaffiliate=14) for inking comfort, but I feel it was an edge with web surfing and mouse replacement duties. Perhaps the Lenovo engineers had that in mind when they went with this design. If you're someone who switches up pen positions, this one is worth a look. Thanks Mike!
