iPhone: Assisted GPS seems more assisted
At the Starbucks at Northpoint, I checked the wifi access to see if it was online. It was. I also checked to see if I could get any GPS love while indoors. Worked like a champ, (http://sumocats.blogspot.com/2008/08/gps-northpoint-starbucks_22.html) clearly using the wifi hotspot as a point of reference. Made we wonder how well it was working in other places.
Tried it at work and got broad lock very quickly via the assisted GPS, followed by a close lock with true GPS. Not a dead-on lock but it found the property, an improvement over previous performance.
Unfortunately, the same did not hold true at home. Fine outside but apparently inside the house, I teleport to Herndon. So I submitted my address to Skyhook (http://www.skyhookwireless.com/inaction/apple.php), the wifi positioning service used on the iPhone. Hopefully this will give my assisted GPS a little more assistance.

I've been having a lot of issues with my iPhone... and I've heard of other people having problems, too. Because of this, I haven't switched to the 3G.
I do hope that the phone becomes more stable. I've been reformatting and restoring twice a week! I would just stop using it... but the software is so cool/good/fun. (some of it crashes)
I hope you have more luck with it.
BTW, I'm inkblogging at bradchin.com dunno if you've seen it yet. Similar style... sort of. Your link for me still points to blogspot.

Hey Brad! You are all over the place with your blogging. What do you have, three active blogs plus the micro? Anyway, the one in question has been updated in my roll.
As for my iPhone, I'm not experiencing any woes other than what I posted the other day and it looks like one of those, the assisted part of the gps, is running better now. Hope your problems get sorted out soon.

I can't seem to keep my iPhone stable. I've been writing about it, hopefully Apple will come up with some way to screen out unstable applications.
(I really wish unstable apps weren't able to completely tank the entire phone)
Hopefully I'll be inking from an entirely new Tablet later today! I've wanted one for a while, but it wasn't a prudent buy at the time. The new HP tx-series looks pretty great, however... if it has the same keyboard as the dv6000-series I saw at Best Buy, I'll be forced to get it.
I really want a slate (wrote about it a bit at bradchin.com) but I think that they're too pricy, and that it's unfortunate, because they're too pricy for many other people, too. Ink will never be mainstream until the prices fall... the hp tx is a decent attempt though, even with Vista Home Premium!

Having moved up from a 10" slate to a 14" convertible, I really don't see a major advantage of a slate over a convertible. There usually isn't much of a weight decrease, and convertibles operate fine in slate mode. I use mine in slate mode most of the time and use the keyboard when its convenient.
