ritePen + nirCmd = killer tab app mash-up
Yesterday, I declared ritePen 3.0 (http://www.ritescript.com/Products/ritePen.aspx) to be the killer tablet application (http://sumocat.blogspot.com/2008/06/ritepen-30-is-killer-tablet-app.html). Today, I declare it + nirCmd (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) to be the killer tablet application mash-up! ritePen can launch applications by scribbling. nirCmd is an application that can trigger commands when launched. Put them together and you can scribble commands.
For example, here's my macro for turning off my screen when I scribble [dark in a circle]. ritePen launches nirCmd. nirCmd uses the parameters listed in the ritePen macro to determine what to do.
But that's just the beginning. Using scripts, I've enabled all the basic keyboard shortcuts, like save, print and select all. I also set macros and iconic shortcuts for shift and ctrl sticky keys, so I no longer need to call up the TIP to do this, which is something I've wanted for a while. Pretty much anything that can be done with a keyboard, I can now do with a scribble.
Macros, scripts and directions will be shared as I get things concrete. In the meantime, be sure to try out ritePen and download nirCmd, which is freeware. Individually, they're great. Together, they're absolutely killer.
