VP Debate more measured than I thought
I predicted either an awesome debate or a boring one, and I was totally wrong. This was a very measured debate between two incredibly disciplined candidates. Biden definitely had the substance, but Palin's charm was as strong as advertised. She annoyed the hell out of me with her question-dodging, mispronouncing "nuclear", and very obviously scripted responses, right down to the look of recall on her face, but I must acknowledge that she played well to her base and stayed on message. If she made a mistake, it was her attempt to play the family card against a man who lost half of his. This gave Biden the chance to remind us he knows family hardship better than most of us.
Biden was much stronger and more coherent than Palin, but that was to be expected. Palin's only goal was to not sound stupid, and I think she pulled it off, even speaking with authority and showing a sense of building momentum at times. Biden won but he didn't beat the spread. I don't think the race has changed and that's bad news for the currently trailing McCain.
